Bipolar Disorder And Social Media

Most of my thoughts regarding social media can extend to those without bipolar disorder. I just thought I would throw that out there. 😉

I created The Bipolar Battle in April 2017. At the time, I was taking an online course on how to make a blog. During my online education, I learned the importance of utilizing social media to drive traffic to my blog.

I have never been a fan of social media. In fact, I thought I had deleted my Facebook account and did nothing online for about a year.

Through my journey, I have learned the importance of social media. The big word I try to always adhere to is MODERATION.

My Dad hammered the idea of moderation into my psyche. Having bipolar disorder, moderation is my friend and ally.

Just like anything else, too much of anything can be a bad thing. I am sure you have learned that even too much of a good thing can be detrimental.

It is quite easy to get on the computer and check all your different social media accounts.  Minutes can easily turn into hours. If you do not watch yourself, it is easy to spend a whole day on social media without ever feeling like you got anything accomplished. Like anything else in life, you can find yourself quickly addicted.

With a blog, I have accounts on all the popular social media platforms. To keep my time productive, I am trying to figure out the best posting schedule that aligns with my life. I have tried countless variations of a schedule and I have still not mastered this. However, I have cut out a large portion of wasted and unnecessary time in my life.

Disclaimer: I am not supporting one social media platform over another.

My Focus On Social Media

I have focused on Twitter because you can post more and create sincere relationships. This is huge because my blog is about the empowerment of individuals with bipolar disorder so they can live the life they deserve. Twitter provides the creation of a community along with friendships. It is a great platform to support my blog.

I also utilize Facebook, but I have found the younger crowd does not enjoy it like they used to. Still, I can create relationships with others and Fan Pages to support my endeavors.

I have found that scheduling my social media time is the best way to organize my time. Also, I do not have a data plan on my phone so I do not check my phone while I am out. This cuts back on the time I spend on my various social media accounts.

Last Thoughts

In summary:

1) I have determined how many days a week I would like to be on my computer
2) I have scheduled the times in my calendar.
3) The scheduled times are in blocks
4) I fall back on the idea of moderation
5) Too much of anything can be bad

Thank you for taking the time out of your day to read my blog post. It means the world to me!
